A Message From Our Pastor

A Letter from Pastor Joe

I can’t believe that Advent is already here and that Christmas is a little more than 3 weeks away! Advent is a time when we prepare for the coming of the King (baby Jesus) and where the Christmas season is often associated with waiting. We can all remember Christmas’ when we were growing up and really wanting that special toy. We dropped hints everywhere to our moms or dads and wrote letters to Santa. As a kid, I even tried extra hard to be nice to my sisters, which wasn’t easy to do! When Christmas morning finally came, we jumped out of bed and ran to the Christmas tree, looking for a present with our name on it.

Christmas Eve is traditionally when we go to church for to hear those old favorite hymns, like Silent Night and Joy to the World. Then Christmas Day is a time when we take time out of our busy schedules, and take time for family and friends. It’s a time to share our lives with those we love and care for.

This Advent, let’s take some special time and spend it with our Savior too. We can do it by coming to worship, taking some time to pray, and helping our neighbors. Yes, helping our neighbors is spending time with Jesus. In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus says, whatever you do to the least of people, you do it to me. Jesus is all about family (community).
Jesus (the king) doesn’t care how we are dressed, or how many presents we have, how we worship, where we have been or where we are, what denomination we are, but he cares about how we love God and love our neighbors with simple acts of kindness.

Did we feed and clothe, give a drink, visit the isolated, care for the sick, help all who were in need and accept our neighbors into community? These are simple gifts, but also life giving. Christmas is the time when we remember that Jesus (Emmanuel) is God’s precious gift to humanity and all of creation. So I hope that you take special time with our Savior this Advent and you have a joyous and peace-filled Christmas!

Merry Christmas!!
